Multi-Language Support

Per request I've enabled a host of extensions for multi-language support. I believe the intention is to help translate the manual and beginner's guide to other common languages. Check out the Special:Version page for the extensions or this external reference. MLEB --Admin (talk) 16:53, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

Spam Control

I have retired ReCaptcha and enabled QuestyCaptcha with an array of SotSII specific questions to fool the spambots. It won't stop the human spammers but I don't think we have a problem with them. I also like the idea of requiring people to have at least a little SotSII knowledge before editing. :) Let me know if you have a question I should add to the pool. --Admin 22:51, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Collapsible Navboxes

It looks like both CPhoenix and I are trying to get collapsible navigation boxes to work. I am not having much success. I've added changes to MediaWiki:Common.js and MediaWiki:Common.css but I'm still not getting the nav boxes to collapse. I'm kinda at a loss as what to try next. I think that the SotS2 default skin needs some code added to it (based off a comment I've seen on wikipedia), but I'm just not sure. I really want to make changes to the weapons, tech and ship section pages by using collapsible navigation boxes. --Nspace 21:24, 16 January 2012 (EST)

Nah, I was doing something else entirely. If you're gonna do testing I would suggest doing so in your personal common.css and sots2.css files, just as a preventative measure from accidentally borking up something (then it's only you that's affected). :)
As I understand it, the CSS tables should cascade like this: MediaWiki:Common.css --> MediaWiki:skinname(lowercase).css --> User:username/skinname(lowercase).css. However, Common.css needs to be imported into skinname(lowercase).css using: @import url("/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Common.css&ctype=text/css&action=raw");
You might need to do similar with Common.js --> sots2.js . --CPhoenix (talk) 11:10, 17 January 2012 (EST)

Now that we're using the defualt "Vector" skin your collapsable navboxes will probably work. :) --Admin 23:37, 22 January 2012 (EST)

I was wondering what happened... --CPhoenix (talk) 01:18, 23 January 2012 (EST)

Sword of the Stars 2 Category

OK, over on the SotS 1 wiki we have a Category:SotS that includes Category:Sword of the Stars, Category:Born of Blood, Category:A Murder of Crows and Category:Argos Naval Yard, as well as categories for each of the collection releases and the various game versions. Do we want to keep that set-up over here? Having a "container" category where we can link to the main game and the expansions could be useful, but it seems like it adds an extra "layer" for players to fight through if we don't put direct links to the actual game categories on the main page. Since we are essentially starting over with the SotS 2 wiki, I thought I would ask before just creating some new pages. --Nspace 16:51, 15 February 2011 (CST)

  • It's pretty obvious there will be expansions and DLC. As long as it's useful and understandable I have no objections. --Admin 20:03, 15 February 2011 (CST)
  • Stubbed out the Category:SotS2 but did not add any proper text. The Category:Sword of the Stars 2 is migrated from the SotS1 wiki. Once we go live, I'm going to rework the page there to point here. --Nspace 14:23, 19 February 2011 (CST)

Wiki and SotSpedia?

Are there any ideas yet on what to do with the Lore-part of this wiki after the game is released, especially in light of the Sotspedia? It seems to me when you think it through all the way to the end you're left with two options. Either to clone and wikify the Sotspedia (possibly up to a to-be-determined point) or to only have small bits of basic info like the single page I made for all the races. Personally I think the game will sell more copies with the former option, which is what it has to boil down to I guess. Thoughts? --ZenMagnus 04:05, 23 August 2011 (CDT)

  • I've spoken briefly with Mec and Caste about this subject. In general they're okay with some replication as the wiki is accessible to everyone, not just people who own the game. In reality the work that Arinn is doing in the Lore and Galactic Atlas sections of the forum (which we have explicit permission to copy here) are in fact SotSpedia articles. I will clarify with KP in the coming days. --Admin 00:32, 24 August 2011 (CDT)

Namespaces

Not a complaint, but a thank you. I had to add most of the namespaces for pywikimedia for every blasted wiki I use it on by hand (bloody generator didn't do it right). This was the easiest wiki to handle. Nice, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... :) --CPhoenix 03:15, 20 December 2011 (EST)

  • You're most welcome CP. --Admin 11:41, 21 December 2011 (EST)
