Deeper understanding of field physics allows the projection of contained fields that induce a temporary shift in the targets acceleration versus inertia ratio. The result is a small reduction in the target's speed that slowly fades over time. Multiple hits by this weapon increase the effect. While the inertial field does no contact damage per se, the stress of the inertial shift does damage the target vessel's support structure.
