Account confirmation

I can't see the Special:ConfirmAccounts page because I'm just on the administrator list. Here's the "error" I'm getting:

The action you have requested is limited to users in the group: Bureaucrats.

Requiring Login

I'm this >< close to requiring a login since we get some anonymous spam every other day or so. Any comments? -Rorschach 06:32, 19 February 2007 (PST)

Requiring a login to alter content would be useful.
Stops me from making anonymous changes...  ;p -silvaril

Login required. Have a nice day. -Rorschach 22:23, 8 March 2007 (PST)

  • Taking a look at the user list, there looks to be about 100 spambot logins. I'd like to preemptively perma-block many of them, but I am concerned about blocking a legitimate user. Should I just wait until that account is used for spam, or is there something you can do to check if it's real or not? And is there a way for a legitimate user to contact you/get unbanned if need be? --Nspace 17:54, 13 June 2007 (EDT)
    • Ban them. I don't think they're legitimate. I've been looking for a way to just dleete them from the database. --Rorschach 18:12, 13 June 2007 (EDT)

Odd Error

I got this odd error in trying to add a new image to this page. I'm not really sure what to make of it or how to fix it. The odd thing is that an older image works fine, while the new 1.2.1 image doesn't. I'll look around on net to try and track down what might be going on, but I thought you should know.

Error creating thumbnail: /usr/bin/convert: Unrecognized option (-thumbnail).

--Nspace 11:00, 27 December 2006 (PST)

  • It's a problem with the Imgaemagick program loaded on the server. That's what's called by Mediawiki to resize images for thumbnails and the like. I'm looking into getting it upgraded. -Rorschach 07:02, 27 February 2007 (PST)
  • ImageMagick is upgraded. Thumbnails now work. -Rorschach 22:22, 8 March 2007 (PST)
  • Thanks Rorschach, I have quite a few Interface picks that I've been holding off posting. I'm off to do that now. --Nspace 08:48, 9 March 2007 (PST)
    • Could y'all throw the latest ImageMap up as well please? :) --silvaril 00:45, 5 March 2007 (PST)
      • Hey Sil, I fixed the issues you were having with the clickpic template. You were leaving out the height and width variables. Is that why you were asking for ImageMap? --Nspace 13:40, 8 March 2007 (PST)
        • More that the use of ClickPic seems to require doublehandling and the creation of new templates for every working click-through. The more we add linked through Images onto the Wiki, the more crowded things are going to get and I would rather head things off now. :) --silvaril 01:21, 12 March 2007 (PDT)
  • OK, I'm seeing an issue with Thumbnails again. Specifically, I can't get the SotSBoBBox.jpg image to work as a thumbnail. The site was also down for a little while earlier, so it might have more to do with a hosting problem than the thumbnails themselves. --Nspace 17:50, 1 May 2007 (EDT)

Upgrade to 1.9.1

I upgraded successfully to 1.9.1. There's a problem with the [edit] tags now in teh headers which looks crappy. I'll work on that this weekend. --Rorschach 09:48, 26 January 2007 (PST)

Fixed the edit section tags. -Rorschach 22:27, 27 January 2007 (PST)

I no longer see the editing bar at the top of each of the editing pages. Has there been a change with version 1.9.1? My Profile shows that I have the "Show edit toolbar (JavaScript)" option checked, but it also shows some weird graphical anomalies (white boxes instead of headings). --Nspace 14:51, 2 February 2007 (PST)
  • I don't see it either. I'll look into it. -Rorschach 16:48, 3 February 2007 (PST)
    • I'm pretty sure there's changes to the way mediawiki handles some CSS classses I'll need to see how my modified SotS.css file needs to be changed to come in line with the changes to Monobook.css. This could take a while. -Rorschach 18:18, 3 February 2007 (PST)

Unused Categories

Possibly a Browser Issue, but I can't get to these pages: Special:Unusedcategories --silvaril

Sorry, but I can access the pages both logged in and anonymously. -Rorschach 22:30, 15 February 2007 (PST)

Heya

Odd.
Category:Human Q & A gets me Human Q instead, with a similar contraction for Category:Hiver Q & A.

Firefox 2.0.0.1 as Browser... Checking...

Same thing with IE7. --silvaril

    • I was just trying to delete those pages as they don't seem to be used. Can't get to them to delete them, so this is me now handing the issue over to you... :D *waves* --silvaril 12:32, 27 February 2007 (PST)
  • The & pages are deleted. -Rorschach 13:10, 9 March 2007 (PST)

Ship Section Question

I've got a question. When you converted all the ship sections to the new template (thank you for that by the way) :), you dropped all the bank info. Was that to just get the new information posted and then someone can go back later and fill in the banks, or is it an intentional change to no longer have the banks listed? I don't want to add the banks back in if you have a plan, but if it was intended to go back in at some point, I don't have a problem adding the bank info back. On a related note, I was thinking of reformatting the "3 in 2 Banks" entry to either "3 in 2" or "3 / 2" with the Banks link up in the column header, so it would read something like "Sm. Mounts in Banks". --Nspace 17:48, 28 June 2007 (EDT)

  • The perl parsing script that I made to automatically create the section templates is too primitive to understand banks. I didn't intentionally leave them out. I just wanted to make sure I got enough data out there to match the ship summary at the top of the design screen. If someone wants to put banks back in I'm fine with that as long as it's abbreviated. The whole "X of Y banks" seems a bit overbearing. Something like "X/Y" would be nice. But as I said I'm ambivalent. --Rorschach 10:36, 29 June 2007 (EDT)
    • Ok, I'll probably add the banks back in a new format at some point. I'm working on something for my own use that lists banks, but it won't be ready for a bit. When it is, I'll see what I can do. :) --Nspace 13:16, 29 June 2007 (EDT)

North Star

Heya

Stumbled over Wikidot recently.

I'm going to play around with the NorthStar stuff over there for a bit and see what I can do... :)

If they want to pick up the bandwidth costs, I'm not likely to complain :D

Any concerns or questions, just yell ;)

--silvaril 20:08, 30 January 2008 (CST)

I was thinking on setting up nstar.rorschach.net, but wikidot or wikia could work too. --Rorschach 23:09, 30 January 2008 (CST)

Concept site at:

http://northstar.wikidot.com/

I am particularly amused that one of the available skins was called "Shiny"... that would be the one currently in use... :)

Navigation currently via the drop down "page menu".

I have some reservations about WikiDot, which is the reason I wanted to play with it...

--silvaril 01:26, 31 January 2008 (CST)

Well, can't say I'm overly happy with aspects of the Wikidot.com site.

Did you want to set up a Northstar Namespace, rearrange the existing namespaces to expand SotS into its own rather than as the Main , play with Projects or what? :)

--silvaril 17:40, 11 March 2008 (CDT)

I can set up nstar.rorschach.net probably this weekend. --Rorschach 21:18, 12 March 2008 (CDT)

Hello from StrategyWiki

Hi, I'm Prod from StrategyWiki. Would you and the SotS community be interested in some kind of partnership with us? If you would like to discuss this further, you can leave me a message here, on my talk page, or send me an email, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. -- Prod 20:04, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Different languages support

Hi.

Is it possible to add Wikipedia-like support for different languages? You see, this game didn't get much coverage in russian press. And the lack of fansites with some solid info about the game doesn't make things any better. So now there's a talk that if we translate some pages we could give links to them to newbie players or even translate them on demand.

Mirorring for offline browsing

I am essentially copying the wiki to use offline and feel bad about the bandwidth consumed for this. I am amazed with the size of it. I would like to compensate you for costs incurred. Send me an email I can cover these costs. - Montag

Not necessary. -Rorschach 05:24, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Deleting Images

I've run into a problem deleting an image for Drake3. I get the following error when I try to delete "Liir Armada CnC Dreadnought.jpg": Error deleting file: Could not create directory "deleted/b/s/v". Is there anything I can do to work around this? --Nspace 21:47, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

File Upload Size Limits

Heya

The new Shinies are pulling more weight, notably that lovely DN from the first Dev Diary...

Any chance of raising the limit to 3MB for now?
